Unik Diphatse JV awarded the SANRAL N3 upgrade between Hammarsdale and Uitkomst

SANRAL records the award of the N3 Section 2 upgrade in eThekwini to Unik Diphatse JV at R3.29 billion over 45 months.

Recorded award facts

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd records that tender N.003-020-2023/1 was awarded to Unik Diphatse JV on 27 February 2025.

The contract covers the upgrade of National Route 3, Section 2, from the Hammarsdale Interchange at km 8.825 to Uitkomst at km 15.500, in the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality.

SANRAL records the value at R3,292,298,773.19 with a duration of 45 months.

Those are the facts published in the awarding body's own tender record. The record does not publish evaluation scores or the reasons for the award, so we do not infer them.

What bidders can take from it

A 45 month programme is a delivery commitment as much as a commercial one, and evaluators of major roads work read it that way.

On contracts of this size the method statement carries more weight than the price narrative. Traffic accommodation, phasing and community obligations are scored, and they are where generic responses are exposed.

Joint ventures also have to prove how the parties divide accountability. Naming who owns each obligation is more persuasive than asserting a partnership.
